Complete Step-by-Step Guide
How to Send
Your Letter
You've downloaded your sample letter. Now let's make sure it gets in front of the right people. This guide covers every step — from finding your representatives to sending your letter for maximum impact.
Step-by-step guide
First
Download Your
Sample Letter
Head to the main campaign page and choose the letter that best matches your story or relationship to direct selling. Each sample letter is a Word document (.docx) that you can open on any device.
Second
Personalize
Your Letter
Open the document in Microsoft Word, Google Docs, or any word processor. The letter has highlighted sections where you add your name and a sentence or two about your personal experience.
Add your name
Fill in your full name and city where indicated in the letter.
Share 1–2 sentences
Briefly mention your connection to direct selling — years in the business, what it means to your family, or a specific example of unfair treatment.
Keep it authentic
Do not change the legal arguments in the body. The persuasive power comes from the combination of your personal voice and the precise legal language.
Proofread once
A clean, professional letter carries more weight. Read it aloud once before sending.
Third
Find Your
Representatives
Use the ZIP code tool on the main campaign page to find your specific U.S. Senator and House Representative. Each letter is already addressed to either Sen. Blackburn or Rep. Hudson — but you can also send additional copies to your own representatives.
Fourth
Send Your
Letter
You have three options. Each method works — choose what's most convenient for you. Any letter sent is a letter counted.
- Find your rep's official website (Congress.gov has them all)
- Navigate to their Contact page
- Copy and paste your letter into the contact form, or attach the .docx
- Use subject line: "Support for the Direct Selling Clarity Act"
Physical Mail
Most Impact- Print your letter (2–3 pages)
- Sign it in ink — this matters
- Address to the legislator's Washington D.C. office (found on Congress.gov)
- Mail via USPS First Class — no need for certified mail
Phone Call
Amplify- Call your representative's office using the number on Congress.gov
- State your name, city, and that you've sent a letter in support of the Direct Selling Clarity Act
- Ask the staffer to note your call
- Takes 2 minutes — doubles your impact
Pro Tips
What Makes a Letter
More Effective
Do This
Use your real name and home address — constituent identification matters
Be specific about your experience — even one sentence about your business is powerful
Send to both Sen. Blackburn AND Rep. Hudson if possible
Share this page with 3–5 colleagues, family members, or customers
Follow up with a phone call — it takes 2 minutes
Send before October 1, 2026 to count toward the 50,000 goal
Avoid This
Don't alter the legal arguments or provisions in the body of the letter
Don't use aggressive or threatening language — professional tone wins
Don't send anonymously — unnamed letters carry almost no weight
Don't wait — letters sent closer to the October 1 deadline have less time to be processed
Don't send just one — if you have a team, mobilize them
